Asbestos Poisoning

One of the scariest things about asbestos poisoning is that it does not generally show signs of its presence until years after the exposure. It is because of this that many people end up wrongly assuming that there really is not all that much to worry about and that asbestos poisoning is nothing but hype. This could not be further from the truth. One of the biggest problems from the breathing in of these tiny fibers would be that of Mesothelioma, which is a malignant cancer that is a direct result of poisoning from such fibers.
Now, there is a chance that you yourself have caused problems with this kind of exposure. But for many people, asbestos poisoning happens when they were under the care of school officials, working in an environment they trusted to be safe and in many other situations. If you believe that you have suffered from this type of poisoning, it is important to make sure that you are going through your entire job and school history in order to determine where you may have been exposed to asbestos.
Remember, asbestos comes in many forms. It can be in floor tiles, ceiling tiles, blown-in insulation, joint compound and wallboard that was manufactured prior to the early 1980′s. Because many homes and offices were built before the 1980′s, there is a good chance that there could still be some of this dangerous material present.
It is also important for you to keep in mind that asbestos poisoning generally does not shows its signs and symptoms for many years after the exposure so you may have to go back several years into your past to see just where you might have encountered the asbestos. Common signs of this problem include things from a chronic cough to problems being able to inhale a full breath. However, these are just the beginning symptoms of asbestos poisoning and since they generally mimic other diseases, poisoning from asbestos may go undiagnosed until much later.
Anyone that is afraid that they may indeed have asbestos poisoning, it is vital that an appointment is made with a primary care doctor who has experience in testing and treating this type of illness. Chest x-rays, pulmonary function tests and possible a CT scan will be ordered in order to make sure that a proper diagnosis is made. The sooner you get tested and seek treatment should you have any issues, the better. Even though you may not yet know what your future is, the sooner you begin seeking out testing and treatment, the sooner you will be able to start feeling better. Hopefully, you will not end up with anything life threatening, but if you do end up with a cancer due to this exposure, make sure that you are taking action if you were put in harms way without proper warning.
